Ear Wax Removal

Ear wax is removed gently via a vacuum using our award winning Tympa system. It is one of the safest and most effective methods for cleaning your ears.

1. Our expert clinicians will ask you a few questions to get a better understanding of the health of your ears. They will then examine your ear canals and ear drums by using the Tympa system, taking images and videos to keep a record on your file.
2. The clinician will then talk you through the ear wax procedure, explaining how it all works. You will then need to sign a consent form before the procedure.
3. After the procedure, the health of your ear(s) will be checked and recorded. If required a hearing screening may also be conducted.
4. If we are unable to remove all the wax, the clinician will advise you of the next steps. This may mean coming back in on a later date once the wax has softened and becomes easier to remove.

It is important that the wax is softened before removal, in order to make the procedure as comfortable and effective as possible. We would recommend using olive oil 7 to 10 days before your appointment 2 to 4 times a day (please read the instruction leaflet). A spray known as Earol is recommended by our clinic and available to purchase.

Avoid wearing your hearing aids after you put olive oil in your ears as you could damage them.

If you experience a foul taste after using olive oil, stop using it as this might be a sign that there is a hole in your eardrum. If this happens, get in touch with your GP.
